Wii Fit - The Aerobic Exercise Alternative

I usually hate video games. I just have no interest in them at all! But Wii Fit isn’t really a video game like any other. It’s really like having your own personal trainer in a way except I’ve had my own personal trainer in real life and I actually prefer the Wii Fit version because it’s more fun!

Wii Fit really does make exercise fun (has hard as that is to imagine.) It turns it into a game. You’ll end up doing the “rhythm boxing” or the “hula hoop” (two examples of the aerobic “games”) for hours just because you want to beat your friend’s score (yes it keeps track of everyone’s scores.)

It includes aerobics, yoga, strength training, and balance games. I mostly do the aerobics and yoga myself. The balance games are really fun too actually but I don’t think they give as good of a workout as the aerobics part.

One of the really cool things about the Wii Fit is that it keeps track of everything you do and how much you weight. This is really excellent if you are trying to lose weight. It keeps you from going “off course” if you are weighing in every day.

But the main reason I think it’s so great is just flat out that it’s fun. Making exercise fun definitely makes it a lot easier to find the motivation to exercise. Heck, sometimes I’m having so much fun with this that I don’t even want to stop. I “play” it for hours sometimes. Compare that to riding a stationary bike or running on a treadmill. I’ve never wanted to keep on doing that. It’s no comparison really. I plan on cancelling my gym membership and just using the Wii Fit instead. In the long run it’ll actually save me money too.

Glad to hear an exercise routine is working out for you, and most importantly, your having fun while at it.

Sounds like a great game. I love exercises and workouts that you can do from your own home. I have a gym membership but often it’s too much effort or time to get to the gym, so I just go for runs around my neighbourhood.

Yes, I do agree. If we don’t find any fun in our workouts, there is a chance that we can distance ourselves from them. I for example train powerlifting and tend to change my training all the time. But since powerlifting isn’t a flexible sport and it doesn’t have many variations this is hard but I’m giving my best.

I agree with you! Since I started getting into becoming fitter and heather I stopped playing video games altogether. I got the wii fit as a prezzy from parents and I love it. You don’t actually realise how tiring it is until you start and

I love what they are doing with the Wii, they are taking something that makes people inactive, and making it active again. The yoga is really fun and actually better than I thought. Not quite like being at a studio though :P

I bout a Wii fit last year and didn’t think I would really get the burn or sweat that I needed to maintain my heart rate up. Boy was I wrong! They have several games that are very challenging and will whip up on you. If you are thinking of getting a Wii fit to keep in shape…go for it. It’s fun and effective!

I think Wii Fit is a great way to get people who don’t normally do/like exercise into doing something a bit active. I am an avid kickboxer, though, and Wii Fit will never give me the proper kind of intense workout I get when training with real pads and people. Having said that, it is good fun!

  • Health Geek:

The funny thing is that when this game first came out I was very quick to laugh it off as a baby game. After using the Wii fit at a friends place I can definitely say that there are some moves that had me stretching were I never stretched before ;)

I do agree with antike though - nothing beats a nice walk outside.
