How a CT Scan Can Help Injury Victims
Once the initial shock is over, it is time to get the extent of the injuries checked out via a CT scan. In order to understand what getting a CT scan means, it is important to understand the basic idea behind x-ray technology. Obviously, a doctor cannot look at a person’s bones just on site. Rather, the doctor needs the patient to get an x-ray.
The same thing goes for a CT scan, which is a more advanced form of x-ray technology. While an x-ray can see the bones, a CT scan can see the bones and the tissue in a far more detailed manner. This can be of help to a car accident injury victims, because head traumas can result in brain damage or clots, which this kind of scan can detect.
Basically, what will happen is that the patient will be positioned on an examination table, which will then be moved back until it is directly under the scanner. The patient will have to remain very still, even holding his or her breath each time the scanner passes through. The result will be a three-dimensional view that will help the patient be properly treated.

When i had my car accident i only bumped my knee and broke the cartilage beneath the knee. At the hospital, I only had a normal X-ray that revealed the fracture.
So CT scans are not always necessary plus they are time consuming right?

Cat scans are truly a lifesaver they have saved many lives throughout the world, if we did not have this technology the outcomes of people hurt in serious crashes would have much greater ramifications.

CT scan is extremely important for head injuries. Before CT scan intruced doctors had to “bet” where to open. Now with CT scan surgeons can “see” exactly where the injure is in the brain.
