Let us first try to understand this ailment in a better way:
. In the type 1 the islet cells of your pancreas stop making insulin. Then the insulin has to be supplied daily (sometimes twice a day) by injections. In the type 2 the patient’s body looses the insulin sensitivity. Hence the patients must lower down their glycemic diet. Also they need medications and insulin shots in order to manage the blood sugar levels.
. The doctors always thought that the type 1 diabetes could not be ever reversed. Now the Canadian researchers at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto have done this on a mouse. The scientists bred some mice to have type 1diabetes. Then they investigated the function & the role of the sensory nerves in the pancreas. They specifically charted the effect on the insulin producing islet cells. They came a across a neurochemical called substance-p produced in the nerves. It causes inflammation around the islet cells and hence damage & prevent them from producing insulin.
. The researchers injected the anti inflammatory extracts of the chili peppers known as capsaicin in the nerves. This reduced the level of substance-p. As a result the islet cell functions became normal and diabetes was eliminated with in 24 hours. They say it a breakthrough in diabetes in 2009. Now the scientists are trying to develop capsaicin injections for the human beings.
. It would be interesting here to mention that cayenne is an extract of chilly peppers and hence serves as a classic remedy to diabetes. It has no side effects on the human body what so ever.
. However, this breakthrough of diabetes of 2009 may take time to get materialized and help he diabetic patients across the globe.

It’s interesting how naturally occurring substances are able to have such a positive effect on the human body. I’m interested in finding out if they are able to replicate their success (at least in part) on a human.

Hi,
This is a very interesting site and article. My girlfriend has type 2 diabetes and controls it with diet. She has done lots of reading and studying up on it since she is in her late 30’s and just developed it.
The experience has made her healthier though, so that is a plus.
I think it is fascinating that they believe they found a cure for diabetes with that injection. If it turns out to be a legit cure for them, I am very happy for those people.

My friend is diabetic and it is tragic and i do what i can to be there. My sister is a nurse and she updates me freuqently but where did this breakthough come out of?
