Detoxification Diets - What Are the Benefits People Can Derive Following Them?
Here are the benefits that one can derive out of going on a detox diet:
• One feels rejuvenated just a few days after being on the detox program as it helps in eliminating the impurities out of the body. There is an increase in the levels of energy.
• During the detox process, one has to consume a lot of water. And water has a terrific cleansing effect on the skin and the skin gets a new sheen as the cells get revitalized with increased intake of water levels into the body. Toxins are expelled out of the body in the form of urine and sweat.
• During the detox diet program, one will consume raw and boiled vegetables, certain herbs and fresh vegetable juices and fruit juices. It is needless to mention that all these are powerhouses and storehouses of vital vitamins and nutrients required by the body. The contents that are consumed during this program are rich in fiber content too which will make the bowel movements more regularized comparatively. Because of the intake of the foods in raw and steamed forms, the toxins are eased out effortlessly through the feces.
• When we stuff our body with different kinds of fast foods and ready to eat junk stuff that is easily available and accessible, the inherent capacity of the body to detox naturally gets slowed down and the internal organs will become overloaded and will be incapacitated to perform their normal functions.
Hence, a detoxification diet will help in reducing the burden on the internal organs of the body like the lungs, liver, colon and the kidneys so that effective and efficient functioning of these is restored.
Detoxing, if overdone, will cause a lot of health problems too. Check out the best detoxification diets and consult your physician before starting off on a detox diet program.

i think that the detox diet is good but the only problem is that individuals will be most motivated to go on it directly after a binge of some sort, and so there is a slight inconsistency in its meaning and the individuals interpretation of it. as youve described it above is spot on, and can be good once every 4-6 months to cleanse an individuals skin and body.

I’m still not convinced with detox diets, they don’t sound healthy to me. I try to eat relatively healthy every day - detox diets sound too much like crash diets, although I know they are meant to clean out your system I wonder if drastically changing your diet like that is bad for you.

Well, if you need to go on a detox diet there is a chance you have neglected your nutrition. Although in some cases these case be useful, I agree.

I’d love to see some actual controlled studies on so called detox diets. All the body’s detoxification systems (liver, kidneys etc.) need are some water and enough energy to function. Just don’t be an alcoholic or mix acetaminophen and booze.

I think the best results of most detox diets are the increases in energy you get and the boost in your immune system.
In the end you need a strong body to fight toxins later too, just flushing them is a short term solution.

Detoxing is important for all of us. We can view ourselves as the filters that we really are. Our body’s job is to remove any poisons that are introduced into our body’s from the food we eat, to the air we breath. And is there anyone who is unaware of all the toxins we are subjected to 24/7?
Our body’s are good at separating these toxins out but we need help in removing them from our system.
Flooding our body’s with green juices is a good way to give our body’s a break from the major workload of digestion while at the same time supplying the nutrients we need to maintain our health.
And smokers really need to get rid of all the extra poisons they add in that non smokers don’t have to be concerned with.
Thanks for writing about the importance of detoxing for health.
