Detoxification - Coping With Side Effects

Detoxification is a very powerful process. During this process toxins are flushed away from organs and tissues. While this process promotes health, it can cause a number of side effects. Some of them are:

1. Weight loss. This actually can be a desirable side effect! You can lose 2-4 pounds depending on the detoxification program you follow. In the beginning it is usually water that you lose but if you stay on a program long enough you might actually lose fat. Because water is lost during this process, it is important to drink lots of water - around 12 glasses a day.

2. Feeling cold. This depends on the program you follow. Usually it happens during the fasting process. In cases like this it is important to take hot shower twice a day and drink hot water with organic lemon.

3. Headaches. This usually happens because of caffeine withdrawal. If you are on a long-term detoxification program, headaches will disappear in couple of days. Even though caffeine provides with quick energy if you have withdrawal symptoms it means that caffeine is detrimental to your health in the long-run. Do not take any drugs, just have a rest, drink hot lemon water.

4. Bad breath. This happens as a result of toxins leaving the body. Basically it means that detoxification process works. Hot peppermint tea will help you cope with this side effect and keep you warm at the same time. However do not drink peppermint tea if you are on 1 or 2 days fasting program. This will make you hungry. Bad breath will disappear as soon as you start eating again.
