Bentonite Clay’s Role in Colon Detoxification
Natural clay used by modern day practitioners of alternative medicine is more commonly known commercially as “bentonite clay”, “montmorillonite” or “Pascallite”. Technically, the clay is formed from the weathering of volcanic ash in the presence of water.
There are two available types of natural clay - sodium bentonite (swelling type) and calcium bentonite (non-swelling type). Sodium bentonite is primarily used for industrial purposes (examples are in the drilling mud for oil exploration, in closing up and sealing subsurface disposal systems for used nuclear fuel and other hazardous chemicals, etc.). The richest sources of sodium bentonite can be found mainly between South Dakota and Montana, in the Southwestern parts of the Unites States and in Greece.
Calcium bentonite is the form used in alternative medicine and is mainly used for detoxification purposes. The biggest deposits of this mineral are located in the Great Plains, the Central Mountains and the Southeastern portions of the United States. Another vast resource can be found in Chongzuo, Guangzi Province in China.
Bentonite as part of the detoxification diet
Modern practitioners of alternative medicine came to appreciate the importance of bentonite as part of the detoxification process. Bentonite is commercially available in three forms - as a gelatinous preparation, as powder or in encapsulated form.
To achieve the most benefits, liquid bentonite is prescribed to be taken internally before taking in any food or drink. If this is not possible, the next best time to take this is at least one hour before or after meals. For starters, it is advisable to take at least 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay daily and mix it with juice. Mixing it with applesauce is very good since it renders the preparation a more palatable flavor. Also, applesauce fortifies the action of bentonite since it contains pectin which also acts as a natural binder. After a week, the dosage can then be increased up to 4 tablespoons daily, preferably in divided doses.
Toxins, pathogenic viruses, aflatoxin (a type of mold) and even pesticides and herbicides can be eliminated by using bentonite clay. These toxins, being positively charged, are attracted to the negatively charged platelets of the clay. To give you an idea how the clay binds with the toxins, just imagine how a magnet attracts metals!
Bentonite also acts like a sponge. When bentonite is exposed to water, it expands and creates numerous porous spaces in between the particles. Toxins are invariably drawn into these spaces and are then flushed with the bentonite. Bentonite is an inert substance. It is not assimilated in the body and is passed through the body very much unchanged.
Bentonite also helps by scraping the linings of the colon thereby freeing it of the various wastes deposited by years of eating an unhealthy diet. Invariably, the colon’s ability to absorb nutrients from the food we eat increases as the colon becomes cleaner.
Coupled with a total lifestyle change, taking bentonite clay can greatly improve the functions of your bodily systems by restoring your health to the most optimum level possible.
