The extent of the development you are able to impart in the mind of a patient suffering from autism is what determines how well they will get as far as they come of age. There are lots of therapies and training processes you could use to teach development to an autistic patient, and they are all rather helpful.
The Floortime system is one, which brings parent and suffering child together. The TEACH system is another, and the Lovaas treatment therapy for autistic children is another. Mostly, these efforts seek to teach language skills and intelligence to the patient and improve their communication abilities overall. But of course, the extent of suffering of each patient varies; hence their abilities to learn also may be variously impaired.
There are some patients who have high-functioning autism who are able to learn enough to live and work independently. As a matter of fact, there are records of some adults with certain forms of autism who have pursued professional careers in the arts or sciences, such as veterinary medicine, mathematics and arithmetic, or writing. It’s all about having access to the right types of systems which help in the treatment, management and handling of autism.
