Alternative Medicine in Today’s Modern World

We live in a busy world, when almost everyone loves to take things within their reach. We live in a world where fast food, remote control, TV, automobiles, gasoline, and electricity are a prerequisite. Modernization has its own conveniences, but it has its own downfalls. It makes us become busy all the time with all the details, so that we don’t have the time to study new things. Take, for instance, the practice of medicine nowadays. A patient comes in, and, after examination and history-taking he is being bombarded with a handful of pills to take with illegible prescription handwriting. The same thing happens to the second patient, then the third patient, and so on. Modern medicine is so monotonous that doctors appear too busy to research on alternative ways on how to promote good health and well-being.

Few of us medical practitioners realize the importance of alternative medicine, and how it opens venues for future research and for the formulation of custom protocols for the individual patient. We think of alternative medicine as “quack” treatments, but do we ever pause to study and examine it in detail so that we can learn from it and apply it to our practice?

Teenage Drug Abuse Testing - Hard Question to Ask Yourself - Does Your Teenager Use Drugs?

Teenage drug abuse is at an all-time high. No pun intended. Youth between the ages of 12-17 are being reported using illegal drugs If you are a parent, you know that teenage drug abuse is not an imaginary problem in our society, but instead is a very real, dangerous and quite far spread activity amongst teens. Unfortunately, to their child’s detriment, parents sometimes like to delude themselves with the fantasies that a good private school, active participation in the church or synagogue’s youth group program, strict curfews, and parental generosity will somehow deter their growing child from the dangers that lurk amongst peer groups, pushers, and the darkness of the dance clubs. Teenage drug abuse is a commonplace occurrence, and parents as well as caregivers need to be alert to the signs thereof, even in the most innocent of settings.

Frequently, you can hear teens making statements to their parents, “it’s not like I am smoking crack” or “it’s just a little pot, it can’t hurt me”. If you’re suspicious about your teen’s drug abuse or illegal drug usage, the best way to find out is by administering a teenage drug test from home.

Back Pain Solution

BACK PAIN

Lower back pain is very common. It affects 4 out of five people at some time during their lives. It is the leading cause of disability for those aged from 19 to 45 and is the second most common cause of missed work days (after the common cold) for adults younger than 45. Lower back pain becomes more common as people age. It affects half the people older than 60 at any given time.

Each year the treatment of lower back pain costs more than $80 billion USD and insurance claims for disability due to lower back pain exceed $8 billion. Although lower back pain rarely results from life threatening disorders, it is a significant health problem.

These people suffer chronic back pain are taking NSAIDs on a long term basis for pain relief without being fully aware of their consequences. The drug taking is then worsened by a cocktail of two or three other medications that they are also taking for other problems.

Autism-Stimming AKA Self Stimulating Behaviour

For a child with Autism, Stimming is an abbreviated term for Self Stimulating behaviour.
It is a necessary element for the Autistic child in that it seems to be a way for them to make sense of all that is going on around them. It can also be termed as Zoning Out.

Stimming can manifest in many ways. It can be displayed as flapping, an obsessiveness with a particular item or the way that it is moving or self injurious like biting of the hands or knuckles to name but a few.

No two children with Autism are the same so it is quite natural that there will be many forms of Self Stimulating behaviours.

For the Autistic child, this is a needed outlet and if the stimming takes a form that is not inappropriate, it should not be restricted. It seems to act as a self control method for them to calm themselves and even, in some ways, to digest information.

Stimming seems to manifest on a larger, more intense scale when the child with Autism is in a situation that they are not entirely comfortable with which could be as small as a person entering a room that they are not familiar with or an assembly hall which could be filled with many people and lots of noise.

Allergies - What Are Pollen, Skin and Food Allergies?

There will be possibly over 60 million people who will have to deal with some type of an allergic reaction due to allergies. Possibly one out of every four people will look for a solution to deal with allergies in their lifetime. In children, it is the the third most common chronic disease, in America, it is the fifth most common chronic disease. Allergies can come upon you when you least expect it, and stay seemingly a lifetime.

Pollen Allergies

Pollen is mainly found outside where there are trees, grass and weeds are. Pollen is released into the air during the beginning of Spring.  It floats throughout the air and enters into the nasal cavity. It cause you to sneeze sometimes uncontrollably. From there it enters into the body and can possibly trigger an allergic reaction. Hydration of the body can help flush the allergen out the body. You also have to remove yourself from that area, to prevent further reaction. Other pollen types are dust mites, mold spores and cockroach pollen. Each of these allergens can be prevented, if you continue to maintain a clean air filter in your house. Make sure you dust the window sills and furniture as it collects easily.

Eating Disorders - Growing Problem in Children

Childhood overweight and obesity has more than tripled since 1980. Among children and teens aged 6-19 years, 18 percent are considered overweight or obese. As alarming as these statistics are however, there is another growing concern among children that, without treatment, may result in potentially fatal conditions. In the past decade, researchers have started looking at eating disorders in children, why they are occurring at such young ages, and how they can be effectively treated.

Eating disorders are illnesses that cause severe changes in eating behaviors and related thoughts about body image. The two main types of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa or anorexia, and bulimia nervosa or bulimia. However, many children affected do not fit all of the requirements for these specific disorders. Like adults, eating disorders in children are usually a combination of factors - physical and emotional. On one hand, dieting in young children is instrumental in eating disorder development; on the other hand, it can be a method of weight control for obese children. The family eating environment and influence of parents are important factors in childhood eating disorders. Comments on a child’s weight or body shape, and an emphasis on thinness may contribute to negative attitudes about their body. This may result in long-term problems with body image and self esteem. Mothers tend to have a greater affect on their children’s eating and self image, especially in girls. It is estimated that one in every 100 girls and young women may have anorexia. Symptoms may include exercising a lot, eating little food, vomiting after meals, and a focus on eating, but not enjoying food. You may not realize right away that there is anything wrong. It is common for children to hide their weight loss by wearing loose fitting clothes. You should be concerned if your child complains of being fat, doesn’t eat meals, or makes excuses for a significant weight change. An eating disorder is a serious problem. Pressuring a child to eat will generally not change their behavior. What parents should do:

Different Methods Of Birth Control

Having a child is a big adjustment in a woman’s life. Birth control methods are adopted by a woman if she feels she is not ready for a child. She has to ask herself the question, “Am I prepared to have a child? Am I ready?”

Asthma: Emphysema vs Asthma

In the past emphysema has been seen as a death sentence. Your doctor or specialist may have explained to you that this condition is progressive, and will eventually stop you from breathing at all. You may have been told that new drugs are becoming available all the time, and new research is happening.

If you are youngish, then you may have been told there is a chance for a lung transplant later. Some doctors will simply say to make the most of the rest of your life while you still can.

While this is pretty good advice to follow anyway, there are some really interesting other things to know about. There is a theory that smoking causes emphysema. There are literally thousands of people who have emphysema, but have never smoked ó ever. They have never been exposed to even passive in any dose; they have the same condition as a ‘two-packs-a-day-for-thirty-years’ smoker.

Other people have what scientists describe as alpha antitrypsin deficiency, which is a genetic code that produces less of an enzyme that is needed in your lungs than ‘normal’ people. The interesting thing is that in the vast majority of these cases, the emphysemic condition is not seen until later in life ó even though the genetic pattern that says there should be emphysema has been there since birth.
