What is Acute Anxiety?

Acute anxiety is a psychiatric disorder that is distinguished by its brief panic attacks. The panic attacks are usually accompanied by behavioral changes. Most people have stated that they have had at least one panic attack in their life and many claim to have had more. It is estimated that about 1.7 percent of the adult population in America has a panic disorder. This condition usually hits in early adulthood before the age of 24. People who have experienced some kind of traumatic event usually develop acute anxiety. Studies have shown that women are about two times more likely to develop this problem than men.

Acute anxiety is usually brief, lasting mere minutes or hours. When a person is going through a panic attack, they may be withdrawn and moody. This condition can be brought on by fear or intense worry. Those who experience anxiety attacks usually perceive these moments to be the most frightening points in their life. When having a panic attack, the person suffering the attack will have a feeling of loosing control and may have a strong urge to leave the place where it started. This kind of episode is the reaction of the sympathetic nervous system or “Flight or fight” response.

IUD and Not Getting Pregnant

IUD (Intrauterine device) is such a small thing that is carefully placed inside a woman’s uterus. This will prevent her from getting pregnant with an accuracy of 99 % as a contraceptive device which is not bad.This affects the movement of the sperms and the eggs from the ovary so that it will prevent fertilization. I just came from a family planning seminar with my friends as they carefully introduce/explain different methods, I’ve noticed that there were so many questions arose about IUD, So I’ve decided to share it.

This procedure is usually done when a woman is having her menstrual period, because Doctors have to be sure that the woman is not pregnant the day that they will insert this device.

This can actually stay and lasts inside the uterus for 10 years, of course it depends on what kind of IUD they will apply. IUD is not for everybody. The following are this list of women who can’t undergo this method:

* Woman with pelvic or cervical infections

* pregnant women

* unexplained vaginal bleeding

* HIV positive

* and has a history of ectopic pregnancy

Oklahoma Drug Abuse

The use of illegal drugs has become a reality throughout modern America. The state of Oklahoma is no exception to this rule. Emotional insecurity, poverty and plain curiosity have caused many Americans to experiment and use substances in hopes of alleviating the pain of everyday life and to achieve a pleasurable ‘high’. Many people choose to view these types of individuals as outcasts, but at the law firm of Atkins & Markoff, we view these unfortunate individuals not as criminals, but as victims caught up in the uncaring impartial justice system. This outlook greatly influences the manner in which we treat our clients and gives us the opportunity to provide them with the best legal protection they deserve.

Drug use in Oklahoma consists of many types of drugs. Cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana, extacy, GHB, and prescription drug use. These are among some of the most common problems on the streets today. The clients who turn to the law firm of Atkins & Markoff will be nothing less than satisfied. We pride ourselves on a proven track record of defending victims charged with drug crimes and will use every aspect of the law to make sure your rights and freedom are protected.

Is Acne Genetic?

Doctors, until now, did not believe that Acne was genetic, or ‘inherited’. Because of much research, they are changing their points of view in favor of genetics. But what does this mean to you? Do you really care if acne is genetic or not? It actually means a lot. If scientists can find a genetic factor which causes acne, then they are not far from a final cure for this condition.

At the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta, Georgia, researchers have spent countless hours working with families and even twins to find the answer to this question. What did they discover? That acne did in fact seem to run in families and they found that 81% of the time, that was true.

Look through your family. You will find one if not many who suffered or are suffering from the same condition. Many times you will see the scarring; the sometimes physical effects of severe acne years after the eruptions have disappeared.

It seems logical that if we look like our families, have the same birthmarks, freckles, etc. that we would also have the same pre-disposition to acne. Now that we all believe that this could really be a factor, what does that mean? Are you stuck with acne forever because of this? Definitely not!

Teens and Eating Disorders

Eating disorders have long been a serious problem among people of all ages. However, this disease usually begins somewhere in the pre-teen stages of life, and although many adolescent boys suffer with this disorder, it usually affects and is much more severe in young girls.

People who do suffer from an eating disorder like to place blame on factors such as television and family life-styles. Although these situations do influence eating disorders, the basis for this disease lies within the person whom it is affecting.

Most girls and boys who suffer from an eating disorder usually are unhappy with themselves and their own performance in life. With girls, eating disorders may arise if they do not succeed in activities such as cheerleading or gymnastics, or if they do not seem to attract the attention of boys. Many girls believe that they cannot be beautiful unless they are thin, sometimes due to naturally thin girls that surround them both in real life and in fashion. For boys, causes may also result from sports that are weight orientated like wrestling.

Living With An MSG Allergy

Are you allergic to MSG? If you have a MSG allergy, you need to understand what it is and what foods might contain MSG. MSG is used to add to the flavor of foods or to bring out the taste of the food more. Chinese foods usually contain this taste enhancer as well as some American foods. In the grocery store you may have noticed on the front of some products they advertise, “Contains no MSG”. This is vital information for MSG allergy sufferers. One such food product that advertises no MSG is a dry mix for a Ranch Dressing, it contains no MSG enhancer and is safe for a MSG allergy sufferer.

Taken in large doses MSG can cause a feeling of warmth, sweating, headaches and chest pains. Moderate amounts of MSG may not cause any severe symptoms although you still need to refrain from eating foods that contain the additive. Living with an MSG allergy is not as easy as one would think. Foods such as canned soups and other popular foods contain the additive. It enhances the flavor of the foods and many manufactures are using this to add flavor to the product. Learning what foods contain MSG and the foods that do not is tough.

Back Pain Exercises And Spinal Health

For most people who begin experiencing back pain the most logical thing for them to do is lie down and apply either heat or cold compresses. This approach is ok for the short term but over the long haul you will need to strengthen the muscles in the back area if you want to get any kind of permanent relief. Back pain exercises are the best way to strengthen the area and prevent further pain from occurring.

Back pain exercises must be done in a controlled manner. If you are already experiencing back pain you will need to begin slowly and gradually work your way up to more strenuous exercises. If in doubt you can always check with your doctor or consult a trainer about the best exercises for you.

A good exercise training program can help minimize the risk of future back pain and damage. It can also help reduce the severity of pain which might occur in the future. Back pain exercises should be balanced in with a total body workout for the best all around results.

Dental Care for Children - The Fluoride Controversy

What is Fluoride?

Fluoride is derived from fluorine and exists naturally in water sources. It is the thirteenth most common element in the Earth’s crust. Fluoride helps prevent and even reverse the early stages of tooth decay. It strengthens tooth enamel, the outer layer of our teeth, so it can better resist the acid formed by plaque. Fluoride also allows teeth damaged by acid to remineralize (repair themselves). Fluoride is especially critical to the health of developing teeth in children.

Why is Fluoride Controversial?

The addition of fluoride to the water supply is dangerous and damaging and some advocacy groups publish reports on the hazards of fluoridation. They point to toxicity warnings on toothpaste, concluding that any substance needing such careful dosage must be dangerous.

In response to these claims, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) reviewed research on dental cavities prevention and public policy. The NIH agreed with anti-fluoride activists that many studies in this area are of poor quality, however, the NIH panel concluded that the unevenness of research does not invalidate the clear benefits of fluoride. The NIH stated that the dramatic reductions in tooth decay in the past 30 years are due to fluoridation of the water supply, and parents and health professionals should continue to ensure that children receive enough fluoride to prevent cavities.

NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Having a baby that is admitted into the neonatal intensive care unit, or NICU, can be an overwhelming event. Infants are admitted into the NICU for a broad spectrum of illnesses, diseases, conditions, as well as prematurity. A team of neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, and specialized neonatal nurses provide the most advanced and critical care for these neonates.

Parents with a baby in the neonatal intensive care unit must first understand the reason why their infant is in a critical care unit. While many mothers may know of a certain condition or anomaly ahead of time, there are many times that a mother will unexpectedly go into labor, delivering a preterm infant, or have a baby with a condition, illness, or anomaly that is completely unexpected.

Regardless of how and why the infant came into the NICU, it can be a tough ordeal for any parent. Remember that the NICU staff is not only there to care for the infants, but to help parents through the ordeal as well. A mother or father should remember to ask any and all questions they have, as it is very important they completely understand the condition of their baby.

Drug Abuse and Treatment

Drug abuse rages rampant in our world today! Drug addiction is a complex but treatable disease that affects brain function and behavior. The brain’s structure and function are altered due to drug abuse and can result in changes that persist even after ceasing its use. This is one possible explanation of why drug abusers are at risk for relapse despite the potentially devastating consequences.

Principles Of Drug Abuse Treatment

The treatment of drug misuse is based on certain effective principles:

- Addiction is a complex but treatable disease
- Single treatment can not be give to everyone
- Drug misuse treatment should be readily available
- Effective treatment covers the multiple needs of the individual
- Taking the treatment and staying the course for the entire duration
- Individual and group counseling
- An important element in treatment is right medications
- Continuous monitoring and assessment of the individuals treatment is vital for progress
- Awareness that many drug-addicts also have mental disorders
- Medically assisted detox is only the first step to treating the addiction
- Voluntary drug treatment is effective but not necessary
- Constant monitoring to avoid drug use lapses during treatment
- Treatment programs should assess patients for infectious diseases
