While there are vitamins you can take for healthy hair and to help prevent hair loss, the downside of this is that taking excessive amounts of vitamins can actually lead to hair loss. Some of the most important vitamins for hair loss are the B vitamins because they contain:

· Folic acid

· Magnesium

· Biotin

· Sulfur

· Zinc

· Inositol

Through laboratory experiments with theses vitamins for hair loss, scientists have seen a decrease in thinning hair in lab animals. These results show that a diet low in magnesium cause hair loss in patches, while one low in biotin or inositol results in total baldness.

Vitamin A is one of the vitamins to increase hair growth, but if you abuse it, it can also result in hairloss. Before taking any vitamins for hair loss or to increase hair growth, you should contact your doctor to find the underlying cause for the hair loss. A blood test will determine if you have a deficiency in any of the necessary vitamins.

Understanding Fats and Carbs

Fats and carbohydrates are two building blocks of a healthy diet, but many people do not understand their role in proper nutrition. While the daily intake of fats and oils should be limited, these elements are still a vital part of the diet. The key is to make smart choices when it comes to fats and oils. That means substituting saturated fats with unsaturated fats, and using healthier, lighter oils in cooking.

Let’s look at the role fats and oils play in the diet. Fats are necessary for supplying energy to the body. In addition, fats supply essential fatty acids and act as carriers for fat soluble vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin K and the carotenoids. In addition, fats have an important role to play as building blocks for various tissues and membranes, and they also play a key role in regulating numerous bodily functions.

Eating Disorders - Anorexia Nervosa Effects

In this next article in our continuing series we’re going to discuss the effects of Anorexia Nervosa on a person, as well as going over some facts and figures.

The main assault of this disease is that it focuses on self starvation. Since the body needs food as a basic means for survival, the effects of this disease are numerous to say the least. Because the body is not getting enough nutrition, it is forced to slow down in order to compensate for this. This slowing down can have serious consequences on a person’s body.

There are a number of health consequences from Anorexia Nervosa. The main ones are as follows:

1. People suffering from this disease, after an extended period of time, suffer from an abnormally slow heart rate and very low blood pressure. This causes the heart muscle itself to change. The chance of heart failure rises as heart rate and blood pressure decrease.

2. Because of the lack of calcium in a person’s diet, since they are not getting enough food in general, there is a great risk of reduced bone density, which is known as osteoporosis. This results in very dry and brittle bones which makes them very susceptible to breaking.

The most prominent feature of bipolar disorder is the occurrence of one or more maniac episodes. It is also considered to a chronic condition as patients suffering from one maniac episode tend to have more episodes in the future. It is found that the average is about four episodes in about ten years if no proper treatment is administered. The patterns of mood swings with depression and manic episodes are individualistic and tend to repeat again and again. Researches indicate that the disorder is caused due to genetic influence. This disorder usually starts of in adolescence or early adulthood and if not treated may show its symptoms throughout life.

Bipolar disorder is such a disorder which brings in other problems like drug or alcohol abuse along with it. Patients tend to abuse drug and alcohol in order to get relief through self medication or to stabilize their mood swings and in severe cases as a mode of self-destruction. These problems need to be treated as well along with treatment for bipolar disorder. About 30% to 60% of bipolar disorder or manic depression patients struggle with drug abuse in an attempt to treat this disorder. These traits are found common among people suffering from poor cognitive function, fretfulness, poor interpersonal skills, social isolation, poverty, and lack of structured activities.

Drug Abuse and Society

Drug abuse affects not only the addict but also his family, friends, the neighborhood, and society at large. It also affects businesses and government resources, which can well be borne out by the fact that the United States had to bear the brunt of an economic cost of $180.9 billion for drug abuse.

Drug abuse affects the health of the user, bringing about sickness and even death. Moreover, needle-borne diseases such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis are most likely to afflict the drug user. Widespread devastating effects of these diseases can be expected because nearly 3.5 million people over the age of 18 have confirmed that they had injected illicit drugs in their lifetime.

People who are drug abusers would go to any length in order to get the drugs and in this process they neglect the welfare and health of their children. These children are put to greater risk when illicit drugs like methamphetamine are produced in their homes by their parents because of the hazardous chemicals that are used in the process. Inhaling fumes and gases from these chemicals can put their health to great risk.

The Importance of Antioxidants in the Diet

Everyone has heard the news about antioxidants and their importance to good health and proper nutrition. It seems the more scientists learn about antioxidants, the more their value and potential increases. Antioxidants have shown promise in everything from preventing heart disease to slowing the degeneration of the eyes and brain.

Antioxidants work in a fairly straightforward way. What makes them so effective is their ability to neutralize a group of highly reactive, highly destructive compounds known as free radicals.

The production of free radicals is a normal bodily process, and it is part of the process of breathing and living. Free radicals are normally neutralized by the body’s natural defense system, rendering them harmless. However, anything that weakens the body’s natural defenses weakens its ability to fight off these free radicals. Those weakening agents include environmental pollution, excess UV radiation and even excessive consumption of alcohol.

Womens Hair Loss Products

One of the most commonly used womens hair loss products is Rogaine. It is the only
treatment that has been approved for women’s use. It contains Minoxidil in a solution
that you rub into your scalp. Although this is the same product that is used for men, There
is only 2% Minoxidil in Rogaine as compared to 5% for men. However, it is used
primarily to help regrow hairs. It does not address the problem of hair loss and does
not work for everyone.

Women who experience stress may often notice hair loss. This also applies to pregnancy,
the birth of a baby or surgery. All of these cause trauma to the body and can result in hair
loss. Once the body adapts to the situation or the cause of stress is removed or reduced,
normal growth resumes. No treatment is necessary in these cases.

Women who experience alopecia have several treatment options open to them, which
include the use of Rogaine. A doctor can inject cortisone into the scalp or the woman can
use lotions containing cortisone. At the outset of the diagnosis of alopecia, they can apply
dithranol to the scalp. Aloe vera gel has been really effective in stopping hair loss and in
spurring regrowth. Scalp massage with a combination of rosemary and sage will also
keep the scalp soft and help prevent the hairs from falling out. Women can look for
products containing jojoba oil or Ho Shou Wo.

Primary Causes of Drug Abuse - Gaining Tips For Prevention and Information

There are a lot of theories that discuss genetics in terms of drug abuse. I find genetics can be tricky as we often use our parents as models psychologically which is not the same as inheriting a genetic pattern or tendency.

If our parents were abusive towards us or had a lot of emotional problems, we may have found ways to drown out the pain as children. This could involve imaginary friends, absorption in science fiction or video games and excessive sleeping. As people get older, alcoholism and drug temptation appear as ways to block out painful feelings.

As a therapist I see many from dysfunctional families deal with pain through some form of excessive behavior. This can be a cause of drug abuse, but also it may manifest as an eating disorder, promiscuity, constant job changing or thrill seeking.

Personally I think nothing actually can “cause” us to do something . If we’ve been fortunate to have some good role models or mentors in our lives from neighbors, relatives or teachers then a challenging situation may be met with a certain degree of will power and stamina. This is why education, positive influences and inspiring books can be helpful in changing our lives. On the other hand, when we’ve been around people and family with poor coping mechanisms who use anger, alcohol and drugs, blame and avoidance to face adversity, we aren’t shown ways to transform tough situations into personal growth.
